It's official! act #2023-548 - Alabama's new notary laws

URGENTLY Important Information for Alabama Notaries!

On  June 14, 2023, Governor Kay Ivey signed a bill that overhauls Alabama's existing notary laws. The new requirements go into effect Friday, September 1, 2023,


What changes?

A lot!

  1. Eligibility Requirements  -  stricter guidelines on residency
  2. Background Check
  3. New Notary Application Fee
  4. Mandatory Training
  5. Notary Bond Increases to $50,000
  6. Notary Fee increases to $10.00
  7. Notarial Certificate wording.
  8. Severe penalties and consequences for notaries who fail to follow the laws - including felony charges.

No. Wait until your commission renews before undergoing the background check, completing the mandatory training  and replacing your existing bond. However, you need to adhere to all other new requirements and standards. Make the time to study the new law and learn what 's required of you beginning September 1, 2023.


Since Alabama notaries have the highest surety bond amount, it's not surprising that you are having some difficulty.  You can purchase a 50,000 bond by going to www.TheBondLady.org.  The cost is $70.
